Get Enough Sleep:
Getting enough sleep during preseason camp is absolutely vital. Let’s be real- your body is likely going to get torn up during those grueling two-a-days. Sleeping is your #1 recovery tool from these sessions. It allows your body to heal and adapt to your new training load. And yes, sleep is more important than recovery shakes, massages, compression boots, and so on.
Eat Enough Food:
Eating enough food is absolutely key for having a good preseason. You’re going to be burning a TON of calories during preseason, and you need to make sure your eating enough to give your body the fuel it needs! Make sure you eat a healthy blend of carbohydrates, protein, and fats. Carbs will give you the energy you need, while proteins and fats will allow your body to recover.
Maintain Your Strength:
Even though you’re back on the pitch, it is still important to get in the weight room a few times a week! You can lose your strength gains in as little as a week or two, so it’s best to still train with heavy weights at least 1-2 times per week. If you’re worried about being too sore, consider training with the same weight but do less sets. For example, instead of back squatting 5 sets of 5 reps at 135lbs, try 3 sets of 5 reps instead.
